FAQs About Sunless Tanning In Our Mystic Tan Spray Booth

HOW DOES THE SOLUTION WORK?
The active ingredient in virtually all sunless tanning formulas is DHA (dihydroxyacetone), a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. DHA is usually derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. When DHA is applied to the skin, it causes a harmless chemical reaction with the existing amino acids in the skin to produce a tan. IS THE SPRAY TAN GOING TO MAKE ME ORANGE? Before the Mystic Tan booth, most self-tanners were creams and lotions applied by hand. That meant inconsistent coverage and too much lotion applied in one place left the skin looking orange. However, the Mystic Tan Booth uses MagneTan™ technology, which ensures that a uniform micro-spray of sunless solution covers the entire body in the exact amount required to produce a natural-looking tan. Also these days spray tans are formulated to counter orange undertones and there are a variety of color-correcting primers that can be paired with your session as well. While we can’t guarantee individual results (as everyone’s skin is different), thousands of spray tans administered and weekly spray-tanners in our salons can’t be wrong! DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT? Booking an appointment prior to coming in is highly encouraged! We always welcome walk-ins but appointments will guarantee your spot. I HAVE A BIG EVENT WHEN SHOULD I SPRAY? We always recommend a trial session a few weeks in advance before any big event if it’s your first time doing a spray tan. It is personal preference when you choose to spray, but we like to recommend spraying a day or two before an event. This will give you an opportunity to take your first warm water rinse 6-8 hours after your session. |
WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE MY SESSION?
Your skin should be showered, shaved, and exfoliated at least 24 hours before your spray tanning session. The day of the session we recommend our spray tanners come in bare skinned; moisturizers, perfumes, lotions, oils or deodorants can create a barrier between your skin and the sunless tanning solution. Any waxing, laser hair removal or other skin type treatments should be conducted at least 48 hours prior to your spray tan session. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? The time spent in the private, self-contained booth is only several minutes. The booth is also installed with a voice automated system that will guide you with step by step instructions through your entire tan process from beginning to end. After your session your color might not be apparent but your spray tan will continue to darken during the hours following your appointment. Wait at least 6-8 hours before your first shower and avoid any aquatic activities or excessive sweating. WHAT DO I WEAR DURING MY SESSION? Some clients choose to spray nude to avoid tan lines, and some wear undergarments or bathing suits. It is a personal preference, but be aware that if you do choose to wear anything while in the booth that the bronzers used in the solution may stain them. WHAT DO I WEAR AFTER MY SESSION? It’s important to bring dark loose fitting clothing with you to change into after the spray tan session. Putting on tight clothes may disrupt the tan during development. HOW LONG DOES THE COLOR LAST? Our solution lasts about 5-7 days, depending on the condition of the individual’s skin. See the question below for more information and tips on how to care for your spray tan. HOW DO I MAKE MY COLOR LAST? The most common way to extend your tan is by applying moisturizer daily, even twice daily. We highly recommend the tan extenders sold in the salon that are formulated to prolong your color. There are ingredients in some lotions that can cause a spray tan to actually fade away quicker and leave the color flakey making your skin have a patchy appearance. *View our our Daily Specials for more information!
